Larian Studios Unveil a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz about The Game Awards reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a brand-new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer packed with intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, frequently in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can get ready for a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
