The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51 million spectators in the US, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this represents the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday memorable game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience growth for two straight years.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after 2017.
